A study of the adrenal tissue of the male African bullfrog, Rana adspersa
نویسنده
چکیده
The structure of the adrenal tissue was investigated by both histological and histochemical techniques. It is shown that the adrenal contains 4 types of tissues; these are named the steroid, Stilling, lymphoid, and chromaffin tissues. The structure of the adrenal in the bullfrog does not provide any evidence to support a theory of zonation within the cortical tissue of the Anura, as suggested by some authors. There is no alteration in the appearance or numbers of the 'summer cells' of Stilling that can be correlated with the time of year or with the sexual activity of the animal. For this reason it is considered preferable to call these 'Stilling cells', as was suggested byMagath(igi5). There is evidence that structural differences are to be found between the Stilling cells and the granulocytes found in the lymphoid tissue.

The effect of diazinon exposure on hepatic tissue and enzymes in male frog Rana sridibunda
The purpose of this study was to examine the acute and sub-acute effects of diazinon onhistopathological parameters of liver tissue and blood level of hepatic enzymes of male commonfrog (Rana ridibunda). Frogs were assigned to 9 groups (n=8, meaning 8 frogs in each group):control and treatment groups with 30, 60, 90 and 120 μg/L diazinon in water for one day or oneweek. Hepatic enzymes containi...
متن کاملToxicity of cadmium, endosulfan, and atrazine in adrenal steroidogenic cells of two amphibian species, Xenopus laevis and Rana catesbeiana.
The effects of cadmium, endosulfan, and atrazine on corticosterone secretion and viability of adrenal cells of African clawed frog (Xenopus laevis) and bullfrog (Rana catesbeiana) were assessed in vitro using a new bioassay. The bioassay relies on stimulation with adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), the endogenous secretagogue for corticosterone secretion, and with dibutyryl cyclic adenosine mo...
متن کاملThe Effect of Long-term Exposure to Aspartame on Histomorphometric and Histochemical Adrenal Gland in Adult NMRI Mice
Abstract Background & aim: Aspartame is an artificial sweetener that has been used extensively in over 200 million people in more than 90 countries in various food products and pharmaceuticals. There are many controversial reports about the toxicity of aspartame on various tissues of the body. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to determine the effect of long-term aspartame on histomor...
متن کاملEffects of Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes on Micro-Anatomical Changes of Adrenal Gland in Male Wistar Rats
Background & Aims: Changing the hormonal output of endocrine glands, diabetes leads to the occurrence of secondary metabolic disorders. Neuropathy, on the other hand, is the most common neurological complication of diabetes which affects the neuroendocrine system, in addition to peripheral and autonomic nervous system, contributing to exacerbation of disease severity. In this line, the present ...

It has been reported that chromaffin cells secrete some neuroactive substances particularly opioid peptides and catecholamines which reduce pain. Adrenal medullary implant, have been used in other injury models to provide an endogenous source of catecholamines. The goal of the present study was to determine whether adrenal medullary implants in the spinal space could repair sensory and ...
